Recently The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees a Special Focus Facility (SSF) program, released a list of almost 400 nursing homes in the United States that are so bad that they risk losing Medicare and Medicaid funding and support unless they make substantial improvements in documented failures of care of their residents.

22 of those nursing homes are located in Illinois. Three of those facilities are located in the Metro-East area: Edwardsville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Helia Healthcare of Belleville and Swansea Rehab Health Care.

If you have a family member who is a resident of any of these nursing homes, I urge you to immediately contact the facility and ask the administration what is being done to improve resident care.
